I also felt there were lots of plot points which didn't add up. Why would Frankie remember someone posting her the dog tags if she sent them to herself? Why did Mia know a crying baby would be an effective scare tactic if she didn't know about the miscarriages? Did remains actually wash up on the beach? Why would the police just accept the absolutely mental and improbable story offered by Daniel et al and there be no consequences for faking a death? I’m sorry,’ I gulp, making an effort to suppress my anxiety, my fear. ‘I can’t speak to him. I can’t. Ever again …’ The narrative style is perfect for this type of tale – creeping up on you, bright sunshine and seemingly happy people but underneath it all a distinctly menacing feel – Claire Douglas builds the tension absolutely superbly, changing the game with almost every other chapter and keeping you firmly off kilter.

When we first meet Abi she is struggling to come to terms with the death of her twin sister, Lucy. At first it’s unclear how Lucy died, but what is clear is that Abi is carrying around an enormous amount of guilt and blames herself. The twists and turns in this outstanding psychological thriller will have you questioning what’s going on in every chapter’ FABULOUS The Sisters was one of my favourite books of last year and I admit I couldn't wait to see what Claire Douglas would follow it with and if it would be just as good.I needn't have worried Local Girl Missing is absolutely brilliant, very gripping, worth far more than five stars and I am very disappointed that I have finished reading it.An effortlessly read thriller cum mystery cum drama from newly established author - and winner of a glossy magazines search to find the next big literary star - this is an enjoyable and darkly fascinating story of Abi who is recovering from the sudden death of her twin sister Lucy. The hot guy who was with Frankie last week is called Leon McNamara. He's half Irish, like me, but with chocolate-brown hair and the most amazing blue eyes I've ever seen. They are the exact same colour as my indigo Levi 501s." Per farvela breve, perchè voglio che capite di cosa sto parlando (metteró la recensione sotto spoiler ovviamente), la protagonista Abi è ancora sconvolta dalla morte della gemella due anni prima. Si da la colpa della sua morte perchè c'era lei alla guida della macchina durante l'incidente. On one hand the atmosphere is very creepy, with a possible supernatural element, and the uneasiness settled in for the duration, increasing as the story developed.

The story is told in alternating chapters between present day Frankie and the past where Sophie is telling what happened in the months leading up to her disappearance.I liked and felt a lot of sympathy for Sophie and her brother Daniel but from the very beginning of the story I didn't like Frankie,it's hard to explain why without giving too much away. There is a mixed bag of other characters that Frankie and Sophie interacted with throughout the book, one who is so nasty and sleazy I hated every moment he appeared in the story. All the people in Oldcliffe have their secrets and you never know who is telling the truth and who Frankie and Daniel can trust. To my annoyance I blush. ‘Hi,’ I say shyly, thinking they make an attractive couple. ‘Are you an artist too?’ Abi has lost her twin and is a bit lost herself. Seeing Lucy everywhere she goes, she suffers a breakdown – we meet her later as she is trying to build a new life away from all the horror of her past – then she meets Bea. Free spirit Bea reminds Abi hauntingly of Lucy and is also a twin, they are drawn together. But everybody is hiding something and when Abi moves in with Bea, her brother, and their artistic set things start to get slightly odd. When Abi meets the beautiful, vivacious and outspoken Beatrice and soon after her twin brother Ben, she begins to think that they are what is missing from her life since Lucy's death. But shortly after moving into their huge London home, Beatrice begins to act strangely and Abi ponders if she has made a huge mistake. While fighting her own internal battles, Abi is soon thrust into Beatrice's and Ben's oddly fascinating world.

When Frankie gets the call from Sophie’s brother, Daniel, that his sister's remains have been found, he asks Frankie to come home and help him find out what happened to her all those years ago. Her return to the seaside town brings about a series of events and meetings with people from her youth. Also, her youthful attraction to Sophie's brother Daniel seems to have blossomed into an even more powerful emotion. Then... disturbing notes are delivered to where Frankie is staying:

Now: Journalist Jenna Halliday visits the close-knit community of Stafferbury to persuade Olivia to talk and solve the mystery of the girls’ disappearance. But Olivia won’t speak. Gosh I read this fast – seriously once started there is no stopping so there’s a slight warning for you. Don’t try and fit “just a couple of chapters” in before you have to go somewhere.

Grippingly claustrophobic....” not my words, but those of someone on the staff of Marie Claire. Hmmm, really. I’m honestly fine, Nia. I was walking around Bath and then it began to rain so I went for a coffee. Don’t worry about me. I love it here. Bath’s peaceful.’ Unlike my mind, I add silently. I never knew who to believe or trust in this novel. The story shifts gear several times before the conclusion. That and the dual time line kept me off guard, so that I was never able to find a balance. The Sisters is a tense and very gripping psychological thriller, totally twisted in the best way possible – in this case rather than one protagonist you just can’t work out and who will drive you mad, you have two.
